Chelsea secured a third FA WSL title in four years in style as they ran out
5-0 winners over Reading FC Women on Sunday. The Blues went into
the match needing a win to be confirmed as Champions and got the start
they wanted when Melanie Leupolz gave them a second minute lead. Fran
Kirby then scored either side of half time to put them three ahead, before
Sam Kerr and Erin Cuthbert rounded off the scoring.
Manchester City did all they could but will once again have to
settle for the runners-up spot. Ellen White scored the only goal of the
game with fifteen minutes remaining to give them a 1-0 win at West Ham Utd but with
matters out of their hands, it was not quite enough overall.
Arsenal picked up the point they needed to take the final Champions League spot
when they shared a goalless draw with Aston Villa, who in turn got the result they wanted
to stay up. A game of few chances saw a determined and resilient Villa side defend strongly
to keep the Gunners at bay and secure a place in the top flight next season.
Despite a 2-0 win against Everton, Manchester Utd end up in fourth place, just
missing out on European football by a single point. Ella Toone opened the scoring for
United after six minutes and they never relinquished the lead from that point, wrapping up
the points late on when Kirsty Hanson scored the second.
Tottenham Hotspur ended their
campaign on a winning note, with a 1-0 success
