The last round of the regular fixtures in SWPL 1, ahead of the split of the division into two
sections of six, took place on Sunday. There was never any doubt as to who would lead the table
at this stage, and Glasgow City maintained their six point advantage by scoring eleven times
without reply past Glasgow Women.
After Linda Motihalo had given them the lead, City went on the rampage from that point
as Lauren Davidson and King Kozak each netted twice, with Emily Whelan, Megan Foley,
Miracle Porter, Jenna Clark, Priscilla Chinchilla and Claire Walsh also getting on the
scoresheet.
Celtic still lead the chase in second, bouncing back from defeat to Glasgow City seven days
earlier to win 2-0 at Hibernian. Amy Gallacher gave them a ninth minute lead against her
former club and Caitlin Hayes wrapped up the points with the second.
Rangers meanwhile entertained Hamilton Academical and ran out 6-0 winners to
keep their title hopes alive. Lisa Martinez hit a hat-trick for the reigning Champions, with
Rachel McLauchlan, Brogan Hay and Colette Cavanagh adding the other goals.
Hearts are looking good for a fourth place finish following their 2-0 victory over
Spartans, whose hopes of a top half place were brought to an end. Georgia Hunter opened the
scoring just before the hour mark and the points were sealed through a Robyn McCafferty own
goal.
The final position in the top six was up for grabs and it was Partick Thistle, who were
sixth at the start of play, who claimed the spot with a 1-0 win away to Dundee Utd. Cara
Henderson scored the only goal of the game after 24 minutes to ensure that Thistle, in only their
second season in the top flight, will play the sides at the top for the remainder of the season.
Motherwell did everything they could but will be in the bottom section after ending up
a single point behind Partick. Carla Boyce scored twice and Kayla Jardine the other to seal a 3-1
win for ‘Well, after Hannah Stewart had
