Scottish Women’s Premier League Champions Glasgow City have received more good news in that
two key members of their squad have signed new deals with the club.
Claire Walsh has signed a contract extension at Glasgow City to extend her stay into a third
season. Walsh joined the club in the summer of 2021 and has made 76 appearances in all
competitions for City.
The centre back made her Glasgow City debut in a 9-0 SWPL Cup group stage victory over
Glasgow Women and scored on her Scottish Women’s Premier League debut against Motherwell in
2021. The Republic of Ireland international played just short of 3,000 minutes this season along
with scoring five goals and keeping 19 clean sheets as she helped City bring the SWPL title back to
Petershill Park
Commenting on extending her stay, Walsh said: “I’ve absolutely loved my time with Glasgow
City and I am delighted to be staying. I am so proud to be a part of such a great club!”
Meanwhile, Glasgow City are also delighted to announce that Mairead Fulton has agreed a new
two year deal with the club. Fulton’s new contract will see her stay at City until the summer of 2025.
The midfielder signed in December 2019 and has made 91 appearances in all competitions in her
three and a half years at the club, placing her in the top 30 all-time appearance makers for Glasgow
City. Fulton featured 33 times this season, scoring three goals and helping City secure the SWPL title
with 12 assists including a crucial one for Priscila Chinchilla’s goal against Celtic in March.
Those performances earned Fulton a place in the PFA Team of the Year. The SWPL Player of the
Month for February has won two SWPL titles in her time so far at City.
Commenting on her new deal, Fulton said: "I’m delighted to have signed a new contract with a
club that now feels like home! Myself and the squad want to build on the SWPL title and continue to
win silverware.”
Head Coach Leanne Ross said on the two re-signing: “After being an almost ever present in the
team during our title winning season, it is brilliant to have Claire extend her contract at the club.
“It is important to have good players, but equally as important to have good people in the
dressing room and Claire certainly fits both of these categories.
“First and foremost she is a leader and a winner but also someone who is focused on learning
and improving, attributes that will take her and the team far. I am really looking forward to
continuing our work together.
“It comes as welcome news to everyone at the club that Maddie has signed an extension to her
contract. Not only is Maddie a fans’ favourite but she is extremely popular in the dressing room and
someone we know we can rely on to deliver performances on the pitch.
“Maddie is a leader, someone who drives the standards every day. She played a massive role in
our title winning season and will I’m sure return next season hungry to achieve more success with
this club.”
Rebecca Galbraith and Ami Robertson have collected the May 2022-23 Park’s Motor Group Scottish
Women’s Premier League (SWPL) Player of the Month awards. These are the final awards for the
2022-23 season.
Galbraith wins the accolade for the first time having been nominated back in April 2021. She’s
also the second Spartans player to win the award after Michaela McAlonie back in April 2019.
The striker had a prolific month as Spartans won all five of their matches in May. Galbraith
scored seven goals and provided one assist. This included two hat-tricks, one against Motherwell and
Aberdeen. Galbraith ended the season as the joint-fourth top goalscorer alongside Celtic’s Amy
Gallacher.
In Park’s Motor Group SWPL 2, Ami Robertson becomes the first ever Gartcairn player to win
the award. The runners-up of the 2022-23 season had seven nominations out of the nine months
with Robertson winning after previously being nominated twice, including April 2023.
Robertson had another prolific month, scoring four goals across their four matches. This
included the only goals in their 1-1 draws against both Montrose and Boroughmuir Thistle. The
striker will be hoping to fire her side to glory on Sunday as they face Hamilton Academical in the
SWPL Play-off Final at Broadwood Stadium (4.10 kick off).
The nominees for the May Park’s Motor Goup SWPL award were Lauren Davidson (Glasgow
City), Kirsty Howat (Rangers), and Lucy Sinclair (Hamilton Academical) and for the SWPL 2 award
the nominees were Abby Robinson (Kilmarnock) and Morgan Steedman (St Johnstone).
