Aston Villa Women are delighted to announce that Carla Ward has put pen-to-paper on a new
deal until the end of the 2024-25 season, with an option to extend for a further year.
Carla, 39, joined the club ahead of the 2021-22 season and immediately led Villa to an
improved ninth place finish in the Barclays WSL.
That progression has continued into the current campaign, with the team securing fifth
place during last weekend’s draw with Liverpool while also becoming the first ever team outside
the top four places to record ten wins in the WSL in a single season.
The Villa manager also won the WSL's Manager of the Month award on three occasions
this season, while also being nominated for Manager of the Season.
The team also enjoyed a strong run in both domestic cup competitions this campaign,
reaching the quarter finals of the FA Women’s Continental League Cup and semi finals of the
Vitality women’s FA Cup respectively.
Rangers Football Club have confirmed that Sam Kerr will leave the club to join Bayern Munich
this summer.
The midfielder has been a key part of the Light Blues squad since signing in 2021 and
leaves Rangers having won the SWPL title in 2021-22 and the Sky Sports Cup this campaign.
Kerr was also the first professional women’s player to score at Ibrox Stadium in a
competitive league fixture as she netted the opening goal against Aberdeen in a 4-0 victory in
April 2022.
The Scotland international made 39 appearances for Rangers in the 2022-23 season,
scoring eight goals.
Speaking to the Rangers FC Official website following her move, Kerr said: “I would like
to say thank you to all the fans, players, and staff for an incredible three years at Rangers.
“I love this club and I am grateful for everything the club has done for me - I will miss you
all.”
Meanwhile, goalkeeper Jenna Fife has signed a contract extension with the club. The
27-year-old, who joined Rangers in 2019, has committed her future to Rangers for the next two
years.
Fife becomes the latest member of the squad to sign a new deal ahead of the 2023-24
Scottish Women’s Premier League season.
Charlton Athletic can confirm that midfielder Lauren Bruton has retired from professional
football.
Hailing from Luton, the 30-year-old rose through the ranks of her hometown club before
making the move to Arsenal’s academy. She made her senior debut for the Gunners in 2008.
The midfielder spent five years in north London as a youngster in the squad that earned
back-to-back WSL titles in 2011 and 2012, as well as lifting the FA Women's Cup twice before
heading west to Reading in 2013. Bruton spent eight seasons with the Royals, making over 100
appearances.
On the international stage, Bruton featured at U17, U19 and U21 level for the young
Lionesses and in 2018 she received her first call up to Phil Neville's England side for the 2019
FIFA Women's World Cup qualifiers, when she earned her first cap at senior level.
The midfielder joined Charlton in the summer of 2021 ahead of Addicks’ first season as a
fully-professional outfit and was also named as club captain for the 2021-22 campaign.
