SBS Scottish Women’s Premier League
The international football break has taken precedence over the past week but there has been
some action in the Scottish Women’s Premier League, with two matches taking place in each
division.
League leaders Hibernian were one of the teams who were not playing, as well as the
three Glasgow teams who were directly below them, and this meant that the winners of the
match between Aberdeen and Hamilton Academical would move into second place, level
on points with the table toppers. It was Aberdeen who took the points with a 1-0 victory, given
to them when Louise Brown curled home a delightful thirteenth minute shot from just inside
the area. Brown also had another strike ruled out for offside whilst the Accies came closest
after the break when Tara McGonigle was denied by Gail Gilmour.
The other top flight game saw newly promoted Partick Thistle play host to
Motherwell, with both teams looking to get off the mark. Thistle went in front in the tenth
minute as Jade Greenshields planted a shot into the far corner but Motherwell reacted to the
early setback, Lori Gardner heading in the equaliser from point blank range and Kaela
McDonald-Nguah firing them ahead going into the break. Cara McBrearty brought the scores
level again, early in the second half via a neat finish, and after both teams had gone close, the
game remained in the balance until two minutes from time, when Freya MacDonald latched
onto a long ball and evaded a challenge before clipping her shot over Khym Ramsay to give
Partick a 3-2 victory.
In SWPL 2, it was another good day for Dundee Utd as they notched up a third
straight win, 3-1 against Queen’s Park. With Boroughmuir Thistle and Glasgow
Women not having a game, this means that United have opened up a three point lead at the
top of the table.
Rachel Todd got the Tangerines off to a great start by scoring twice inside the opening
21 minutes. After the break, the Spiders fought back and Cara Anderson gave them hope when
she pulled a goal back just after the hour but United were to seal the
points with just three minutes left, when SWPL 1 P W D L F A Pts GD
