departure with players leaving work early, changing on the bus, registering
players on the way, etc. Most notable was Sam Kamara chasing the coach
down the M5 in his mum’s car before we were able to stop and get him on
board. Despite all of that we eventually made it to Treyew Road before 7
pm only for the referee to declare the pitch unplayable half an hour later.
I’ll say no more apart from it was an expensive and not very enjoyable
return trip! One star was the lady who runs the burger van at Treyew Road
who fed all of the players for free.

The Truro game is the first of a string of challenging fixtures with Chesham
(H), Poole Town (H) and Hartley Wintney (A) before we are back in FA
Trophy action for the third round qualifying on 31 October. The draw is
                                                         st
likely to be on the 19 October. While we are on the subject of FA
                              th
competitions the Yate Town Academy side will be playing in the 3Q of the
FA Youth Cup at Mangotsfield tomorrow evening, KO 7 pm. Entrance is £2
and your support will be welcome.

And so to our opponents for this evening. We faced each other on three
occasions last season, once in the league and twice in the FA Trophy, the
second of which was a replay. The league fixture was on Wednesday 16 th
October when we travelled to Ladysmead and managed to get a 2-0 victory.
Ross Langworthy and Louis Britton were on fire that evening and tormented
the Tivvy defence with Ross netting two goals as reward for his efforts. The
next meeting took place in the FA Trophy on a Tuesday evening. The match
was a typical cup tie and ended three goals a piece. A week later we
travelled to Ladysmead on a horribly wet November night. A credit to the
Tivvy ground staff that the game went ahead and once again scores were
level at full time, so extra time followed. Yate went behind early in ET and
it looked to be all over however two goals in the final period pulled it back
to 3-3 at the end. With midnight approaching penalties called and after two
epic cup ties it was a shame that either team had to lose in such a way. The
tie was won 4-1 on Pens with Yate heading home victorious, but much
credit given to both clubs for entertainment value. So far this season Tivvy
are looking a very strong side with a comfortable 5-0 win over Wimborne
to open the season, backed up with impressive victories over Supermarine
and WSM last Wednesday. This will be a very stern test.

       C’mon you Bluebells……….
