The top of the table clash on Wednesday night ended with honours
even as Cardiff Met Ladies and Swansea City fought out a
goalless draw which means that the teams are level on points at the
top of the Orchard Welsh Premier Women’s League.
Both sides had opportunities in a well fought clash but the
biggest moment of the match came in the 31st minute, when Met
goalkeeper Annabel Sweeney dived to her right to save a penalty
from Swans striker Chloe Chivers.
Swansea are likely to be the happier side with the result as they still possess a
game in hand on their rivals.
Three days earlier, Cardiff Met had reclaimed the leadership on goal difference by
beating Cyncoed Ladies 4-1. The Archers took an eleventh minute lead through Erin
Murray, which they took into half time, with Lauren Townsend making it two from the
penalty spot just ahead of the hour mark. Murray then added two quickfire goals to
complete a hat-trick, before Rhianne Oakley scored a consolation for the Mighty Oaks.
Cardiff City Women’s form continues to improve and they moved back into
third place with a 2-0 victory away to Aberystwyth Town. Zoe Atkins settled matters for
the Bluebirds by scoring both goals during the second half.
City followed this up on Wednesday by running out 4-1 winners over Cascade
Youth Club, which takes them to within six points of the top two. Phoebie Poole gave City
a second minute lead which was doubled on the half hour by Zoe Atkins, Abbie Davies
reducing the arrears for Cascade on the stroke of half time. After the break, Atkins
maintained her excellent recent form in front of goal by scoring her second and substitute
Danielle Green headed in the final goal
