London City Lionesses head into the international break on top of the table
after bouncing back from a midweek defeat to win 1-0 away to Birmingham
City.
The Lionesses faced a difficult trip to the improving Blues but kept their
nerve and a goal from Karin Muya, in the opening minute of the second half,
gave them a result which sees them keep hold of the leadership
on goal difference.
Second placed Bristol City meanwhile played host to
Lewes and completed a good week for themselves with a 2-0
victory. The first half was goalless but Emily Syme gave City the
lead six minutes after the restart and Abi Harrison wrapped up
the win with the second goal late on.
Southampton consolidated themselves in the top three
when they made the long journey to Sunderland and returned
with a 1-0 win under their belts. Katie Wilkinson settled matters
with the only goal of the game, eleven minutes from time.
Charlton Athletic’s challenge received a setback when
they went down to a 1-0 defeat away to Sheffield Utd. Georgia
Walters scored three minutes before half time, to hand the
Blades three valuable points which see them narrow the gap on
Sunderland one place above them. Charlton Athletic’s Emily Simpkins heads
