KEYNSHAM TOWN LADIES 4
Secretary’s Notes
Today we welcome St. Austell for our last home game of the season. Phew
no more programmes until next season!
More on referees. Last Sunday I was here for 5 hours manning the bar and
cooking food for players etc, staggered home, put a ready meal in the oven,
sat down to eat it and unwind with a glass of vino, and decided to check my
emails. Mistake! There’s 3 (yes 3!) disciplinary charges from the League all
relating to complaints raised by the referee from Thursday’s game. One we
kicked off late - which we didn’t, two the acting captain wasn’t wearing the
right armband - she was, and three the referee wasn’t given drinks on arrival
- the place was heaving and he was asked to find me in the bar, as usual, but
didn’t bother. This could result in fines totalling £150. Next time ref I’ll make
sure there’s a glass of water in your changing room. Pathetic!
Our complaint re the disgusting and inappropriate remarks by the referee in
our Reserve game at Plymouth was passed to the Devon FA. The referee has
apparently admitted to making such remarks and now faces a disciplinary
committee following statements submitted by our players. We await the
outcome.
Then there’s the fiasco of County FA appointing a referee, who previously
played for the opposition, for our Senior Women’s Cup game which was
scheduled for last Thursday evening but cancelled due to the atrocious
weather. Being rescheduled with the same referee if she is available. Pathetic!
It seems the FA are desperate to fast track referees for the WSL and we in
the FAWNL are the guinea pigs. Most FAWNL clubs are concerned about the
general standard of refereeing this season. It’s not fair on clubs, managers,
coaches and players but most of all it’s not fair on you the spectator.
