The England squad that will compete for the inaugural Women’s Finalissima 2023 against
Brazil next month has been named.
Sarina Wiegman has called up 25 players for the showpiece match at Wembley Stadium
connected by EE between the reigning champions of Europe and South America on Thursday
6th April (7.45pm BST). A second prestigious fixture against 2023 FIFA World Cup hosts
Australia, in aid of The FA’s charity partner the Alzheimer’s Society, will follow on Tuesday 11th
April (7.45pm BST) at the home of Brentford.
Announcing her squad today at St. George’s Park, Sarina Wiegman has largely kept faith
with the squad that successfully defended the Arnold Clark Cup on home soil back in February
with victories against Korea Republic, Italy and Belgium.
Hannah Hampton and Esme Morgan return to the fold, while the uncapped Lucy Parker
is also recalled and will hope to make her senior debut after injury caused her to withdraw from
last October’s matches. Dropping out from February’s squad are the injured Emily Ramsey
along with Lotte Wubben-Moy, Katie Zelem and Ebony Salmon.
Wiegman said: “We are getting closer to the World Cup and I can’t think of two better
games to assess our progress. After these games, there will be less than three months until we
fly to the tournament and we must make every second on and off the pitch count.
“This is a major new trophy and to compete for it at a sold-out Wembley is another special
moment, both for us as a team but also for our fans. We will never take these occasions for
granted and I want to see how we perform against two teams that will be hoping to challenge
for the World Cup.”
