Moneyfields 4 Maidenhead Utd 1
Moneyfields beat the wintery conditions and
picked up three FAWNL Division One South
West points with a 4-1 win over Maidenhead
       United.
A venue switch to the Winklebury Football
Complex enabled the match to go ahead and,
after an even first half ended all square, a superb
quickfire hat-trick by Kau'inohea Taylor sealed
the match for Moneys and lifted them to fifth
place in their debut season in the FAWNL.
            Maidenhead started strongly and
dominated the opening minutes but Moneys
scored with literally their first attack on five
minutes when Gemma Simmonds found Beth
Burgess for a strong low finish past Gemma
Harvey. Rebekah Tonks battles with Megan Halfacree
Apart from this moment, there was little (www.jamesprickett.co.uk).
choose between the teams in a tight competitive
opening half. Megan Halfacree sent a free kick just over the bar for the Magpies but
chances were at a premium till the final seconds of the half. A strong move down the
right led to a cross from which Nat Cowell was able to strike a low shot past Lauren
       Sayler.
Moneys made changes at the break to seek greater attacking variety and were
soon threatening to break the deadlock. The danger was coming chiefly down the right
via Simmonds and Aine McKeever. A fine run and cut back saw Taylor beat the
advancing Harvey for the second goal on 53 minutes.
Simmonds made it a hat-trick of assists with an inviting cross but it required a
clever and brave headed intervention by Taylor to divert the ball wide of the keeper on
       63 minutes.
A penalty conversion a couple of minutes later completed a decisive contribution
by the Moneys' substitute, as she completed her hat-trick.
Magpies' keeper Harvey made a couple of fine saves to keep the score at four but
Maidenhead were able to reestablish some control and build their own attacks.
The match ended much as it had been in the first half, tightly contested and fairly
even but the points were long since heading back down the M3 and continuing the
strong league campaign to date for the winners.
