Manchester City’s Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw has been named
Barclays Women’s Super League Player of the Month for
October.
The Jamaican striker secured the award for the first
time after an impressive month in front of goal, helping
Gareth Taylor’s side secure three league victories on the spin.
Notching braces in wins over Leicester City and
Tottenham Hotspur, the 25-year-old also found the back of
the net in a 2-1 win over Liverpool at the Academy Stadium
alongside turning provider for Hayley Raso to score the
winner against the Merseyside outfit.
The forward saw off competition from Manchester
United duo Mary Earps and Leah Galton, West Ham’s
Dagny Brynjarsdottir, Chelsea’s Lauren James and
Arsenal’s Frida Maanum for the accolade.
Shaw said: “I am delighted to win this award for the
first time – it has been a very successful month for us as a
team and I am grateful to everyone who voted for me in a very talented shortlist of players.
“We are feeling so confident after these recent wins and I am really enjoying my
football right now personally, but the most important thing is results and helping the team
to have as much success as possible.
"I will keep working hard to continue my goalscoring form to help carry on our great
form of late and to keep the smiles on our fans' faces.”
Manchester United Women can confirm that midfielder Ella Toone has signed a contract
extension, keeping her with the football club until the end of the 2025-26 season.
Ella joined United in 2018 as part of the club’s inaugural FA Women’s Championship
winning side, and has gone on to become their all-time leading goalscorer with 43 goals and
first centurion with 110 appearances in Red.
On the international stage, Ella was crowned a European Champion with the
Lionesses this summer, scoring the opening goal in the team’s 2-1 final victory over
Germany at Wembley in front of 90,000 fans.
Ella said of her new deal: “I’m delighted to sign a new contract at Manchester United.
The club’s ambitions really match mine and there’s nowhere better for me to learn.
“To play for my childhood club I support is really special and I’ll never get tired of
pulling on the Red shirt. To now be able to do that for even longer is a proud moment for me
and my family.”
Marc Skinner, United Head Coach added: “Ella’s long-term commitment to
Manchester United is yet more proof of the club’s continued investment in the future
success of this team.
“Ella has always been and remains a key member of our squad on and off the field, and
we are delighted she will continue to wear our famous colours with pride for years to come.”
Polly Bancroft, Head of Women’s Football at Manchester United, commented: “Ella
epitomises everything Manchester United stands for, and her new long-term contract
reflects the club’s ambition of continued growth and success, with a role model of her quality
at the centre.”
