League Cup
Hashtag Utd produced a fine result in beating Ipswich
Town 2-0 and taking their place in the Second Round.
Samantha Rowland opened the scoring for the Tags
midway through the first half and Grace Gillard wrapped up the win for her side with the second
goal, five minutes into the second half.
Exeter City also claimed a higher division scalp when they won 3-2 against London Bees.
Jenna Markham, Zoe Watkins and Sarah Stacey all scored first half goals for the Devon side, whilst
the Bees' replies came from Danielle Puddefoot and Taylor O'Leary.
Watford were pushed all the way by AFC Wimbledon but eventually went through with
a 1-0 win after extra time. The game was seconds away from a penalty shootout when Grace Garrad
scored the winning goal for Watford (see match report).
League Plate
Runaway Division One Midlands leaders Stourbridge were taken to extra time by Leafield
Athletic before eventually emerging as 2-1 winners. Sarah Hazell gave the Glassgirls a nineteenth
minute lead but after the break, Leafield battled back and a goal from Kathryn Pagan took the game
into the extra period. With just three minutes of play remaining, Lyndsey Glover scored a decisive
second for Stourbridge to take them into the Second Round.
Cambridge Utd were 4-0 victors in their local derby tie against Cambridge City. Sarah
Wiltshire led the scoring for the U's with a brace and she was joined on the scoresheet by Gisela
Otten and Libby Fraser.
Northampton Town bounced back from defeat in the Vitality Women's FA Cup seven
days earlier to beat Lincoln City 3-2 and go through to the last sixteen. They led at half time
through a goal from Alex Dicks, before a flurry of four goals in fifteen second half minutes saw Beth
Artemiou and Favour Omenazu join her on the scoresheet, whilst Lincoln's replies came from
Abigail Ringrose and Lucy Farrow.
Jessica Driscoll and Kier Perkins each scored twice as Peterborough Utd ran out 5-0
winners over Wem Town, substitute Tara Kirk adding the final goal for the Posh Women with
eight minutes remaining.
Northern Premier Division
Wolverhampton Wanderers maintained their lead of three points at the top with a 2-0 victory
over Brighouse Town. Beth Merrick put Wolves ahead in the opening minute of the game and
Amber Hughes added the second just ahead of the half hour.
Nottingham Forest made sure of staying on the heels of the leaders by running out 5-0
winners away to Stoke City. Charlotte Steggles and Sophie Domingo ensured that Forest were two
up at the interval and Olivia Cook rounded off the scoring late on, after substitute Yasmin Mosby
had netted a brace.
Burnley FC Women meanwhile scored seven times at Liverpool Feds but it was not
quite enough to move ahead of Forest on goal difference. Millie Ravening kept up her excellent
scoring form by hitting a hat-trick and the others came from Elizabeth Hamer, Leah Embley and
Sarah Greenhalgh, along with an own goal.
A 2-0 victory away to Loughborough Lightning means that Huddersfield Town are
keeping up the chase in fourth place. Beth Ibbotson gave Huddersfield the lead on the half hour,
with Kate Mallin scoring the other after the break.
Derby County won 3-1 at West Bromwich Albion and have moved up into fifth. Amy
Sims put the Ewes in front five minutes ahead of half time with Jessica Camwell and Kira Rai
adding the others during the second half, whilst Mariam Mahmood netted a consolation for
Albion.
Boldmere St Michaels continue their fast improving form and are out of the bottom two
following their 3-0 victory over Fylde Women. Evie Billingsley, Lois Jefferies and Philippa
Wilson accounted for the goals as the Mikes chalked up their third win of the season.
