Leicester City made sure of staying on top of the FA Women's
Championship with a 1-0 victory over Crystal Palace.
Leicester did much of the attacking doing the first half and
although they found Palace goalkeeper Chloe Morgan in good form,
they took the lead ten minutes before half time when Lachante Paul set up Hannah
Cain to drive home. Palace came more into the game after the break but neither side
could find the net and Leicester saw the game out for three valuable points.
Durham Women are still keeping pace with leaders Leicester after they
also triumphed 1-0 away to in-form London City Lionesses. Both teams went
close to scoring during a well contested first half but shortly before half time, Durham
took the lead when Emily Roberts headed in a cross from Danielle Brown. Hayley
Nolan almost grabbed an equaliser late on when her header was cleared off the line,
but Durham held on to extend their unbeaten league run to fifteen matches.
Liverpool meanwhile ended a three match run without a win by beating
London Bees 3-0, to narrow the gap on third placed Sheffield Utd. The Reds went
in front after eight minutes as Rebecca Jane tucked home a low cross from Ashley
Hodson, a lead they took into half time, but after the break the Bees pressed hard for
an equaliser and went close on a couple of occasions. With seventeen minutes
remaining, Liverpool went two ahead when Ceri Holland was played in to score and
Amy Rodgers made the points safe when she netted the third.
Charlton Athletic are out of the bottom two places following a crucial 2-0
victory away to Coventry Utd. The first half ended goalless but five minutes after
the restart, Charlton took the lead when Jess King latched onto Ella Rutherford's
through ball and finished past Sue Wood.
