Busy end takes Warminster home

Warminster Town have enjoyed a successful first season in the South West Women’s
League, a busy late run taking them all the way to win the Eastern Division title at the first
       attempt.
Up until Christmas, the season was stop, start so the team couldn’t really get into the
swing of regular game time. Indeed, they only played four times in the league before the
break, winning two and losing another at Chipping Sodbury Town. The opening match had
been a 2-1 win away to Frome Town, followed by a 3-0 victory over Keynsham Town
       Reserves.
It felt that the season started in January which is where Warminster’s amazing run
started of only losing one game between then and the end of the season. They also remained
undefeated at home throughout the whole season.
The main standout game was the title decider against Swindon Town Development at
home, which Warminster won 1-0 with Maddy Brown scoring, meaning they had won the
league. Another important performance was where they worked as a team to get the point
after a poor first half against Paulton Rovers with Mia Blazey and Shannon Redhouse
scoring. With goal difference possibly a big factor in the title race, the 7-1 win against
Keynsham Town Reserves was a huge performance with Maddy Brown getting four goals,
Mia Blazey (2) and Millie Spratt adding the other one.
Warminster’s manager is Tim Fry and coach is Lewis Graham, who have both had a
huge impact on the girls throughout the season. Sophy Whyley is captain, who is retiring
from playing at the end of the season but will become a huge character on the sidelines,
whilst the leading goalscorer is Mia Blazey with 20 goals. She has had an excellent season
and delivered for the team when they have needed her most. Maddy Brown weighed in with
a further 13 goals and Shannon Redhouse contributed nine.
Chairman David Parry the club have been really supportive throughout the season
and all of their hard work within the clubhouse and on the ground. All of the girls have
played a huge part in the success on the pitch and have worked so hard throughout the
season to achieve winning the league.
