The Danske Bank Women’s Premiership got underway on Wednesday night with all six teams in
       action.
Champions Glentoran began their defence of the title with a hard fought 1-0 victory
against Crusaders. Danielle Maxwell settled the local derby with the only goal of the game,
       midway through the second half.
Cliftonville have been busy strengthening their squad ahead of the new season and they
recorded the biggest win on the opening day, beating Derry City 4-0. Captain Marissa
Callaghan opened the scoring and one of the new recruits, Caitlin McGuinness, added the second.
Niamh Connolly completed a good day for her side when she scored two more after the interval.
Linfield, who are aiming to go one better than the runners-up spot last time around, will
also be satisfied with their start as they defeated Sion Swifts 3-0. Alison Smyth put Linfield in
front shortly before half time and after an own goal had doubled their lead after the break, Smyth
netted her second goal on the night from the penalty spot, on the hour mark.
