Last Sunday’s first of three rounds of group fixtures yielded 93 goals with AFC Bentley the
top scorers, their 15-goal tally being more than twice the next highest score of seven, which was
achieved by five teams. Though they are a new name to the league this season, Bentley are one
strongest teams in it with their “ancestry” including players from the now defunct pair of Rovers
Foundation and AFC Doncaster. Millstone are also a new name, but very much newcomers
compared to their hosts. Gemma Harte, who has scored goals for the proverbial fun in recent seasons
in the league, was Bentley’s top individual scorer with seven, Rachael Mullen bagged a hat-trick with
the other goals coming from Katie Baker (2), Nicolle Jepson (2) and Jo Rice. The other game in Group
Six ended 2-0 to Mexborough Athletic at home to Dearne & District with Amy Booth netting
       both.
Group One produced two 7-1 away wins. Abi Shepherd bagged a hat-trick with Jess
Broadhurst (2), Jade Rich and Anaia Willoughby (a former Handsworth player) also on target for
Rotherham Utd Whitehill at Handsworth whose consolation came from Ellie Hall. Lucy Tindle
was the scorer for Worsbrough Bridge Athletic who were no match for visitors Sheffield
       Wednesday Res.
Staveley MW were the only one of the teams scoring seven to not concede a goal. Carly
Rowlands, with four, Abi Creed (2) and Molly Scollay netted in their Group Seven win at Kiveton
Park Development. That group’s other clash saw Barnsley FC Ladies come from 2-0 down to
edge out Dronfield Town 3-2. Annabel Davies and Lucy Paley scored for Town but the hosts, who
are a different club altogether from FA Women’s National League outfit Barnsley, hit back with second
half goals from Jess Horsley (2) and Amy Lassu.
Another team to enjoy a fruitful second half recovery were SJR Worksop Development
who overturned a 3-1 interval deficit to win 5-3 away to Socrates in Group Two. Goals from Valentina
Basso, Christina Galvez and Sophie Shemeld had the hosts in a strong position at half time, but it was
the visitors with a hat-trick from Beth Gingell along with singles by Abby Carrington and Ayesha
O’Malley who claimed the spoils. Hannah Barden (2), Molly Crossland and Caitlin Cooper were on
target for Sheffield Utd Community Foundation in the group’s other game as they won 4-0 at
       Penistone Church.
Handsworth Development, whose squad includes several players who played for
Handsworth previously, are potentially a stronger outfit than their seniors at the club and they won
7-2 away to Sheffield Wednesday Development in Group Three. Katie Jepson, Dani Pinder and
Mae Spencer each scored twice with Caitlin Tattershall also on target for Handsworth, while
Wednesday’s replies came from Millie Simms and Kayha Williams. Charlotte Smith and Mollie
Wordsworth were the scorers for Dronfield Town Development as they won 2-1 at Eckington
Belles in the group’s other fixture.
Leah Kerr (2), Katie Flanagan, Beth Hardy, Kelsey Smith and Sadie Smith were on the mark
for Mosborough who recorded a 6-0 victory at Bolsover Town in Group Four. Sophie Ibberson
gave visitors Kiveton Park the lead from the penalty spot at Oughtibridge Res who levelled
through Cheryl Mawhood and the hosts went on to finish 7-2 winners with Mawhood adding another
three to her name along with singles by Emily Fowler, Laurie Millington and Paris Wagstaffe. Mikayla
Harper, Kiveton’s top scorer in recent seasons, netted the other goal for the visitors.
Wickersley Youth, who were two up at home to Sheffield Utd Community
Foundation Res, needed a very late equaliser to gain a point in their Group Five clash. Laura Barks
and Emily Allen had the hosts ahead, but it was 2-2 at the interval with Sarah Anderson and Shelley
Offless bringing the visitors level. Sara Tyler looked to have won it for United, but Allen’s second saw
the game end 3-3. After a goalless first half, Emily Walker soon put Wakefield Trinity
Development ahead at Swallownest Swallows who quickly levelled through Tasha Lindley and
the game was in the balance until shortly before the end when Megan Brackenbury struck to claim a
       2-1 win for Wakefield.
       Somerset League
Divisions Two and Three are to carry on and play to a conclusion and they got under way again on
Sunday, with Bishop's Lydeard Development narrowing the gap on Division Two leaders
Stockwood Wanderers to two points as they won 3-1 away to Wellington. Jade Brammall, Ellie
Black and Molly Hines all scored for Lydeard, with Marie Barrow replying. Porlock meanwhile
claimed their first league victory of the season when beating Pen Mill Res 10-4.
In Division Three, Wells City opened up a lead of six points when they won 4-1 away to
Burnham Utd. Lucy Pitman led the scoring for Wells with a hat-trick, and Caitlin Baker was also on
target. Rosie Williams (2), Sinead Boys and Abigail Pring accounted for the goals as Cheddar
defeated Crewkerne Rangers 4-1 to move up into third place.
