It was a strange day in the Orchard Welsh Premier Women’s
League in that nine goals were scored in the four matches on
Sunday, but only two of the eight teams actually found the net.
Prior to last Sunday, there hadn’t been any goalless draws
this season but two of the four games ended 0-0.
This included leaders Swansea City’s short trip to Port
Talbot Town, which ended with the points being shared. Port
Talbot therefore become the first team to take points off Swansea
so far this season, the reigning Champions having won all of their previous nine games.
Cardiff Met Women have reduced the gap on Swansea to three points after
scoring seven times without reply away to Cascade Youth Club. Chloe O’Connor gave
Met the lead with eight minutes on the clock and Erin Murray added a second, before
Emily Richards netted a quickfire double ahead of half time. In the second half, O’Connor
and Murray both scored again to complete their respective doubles, with Robyn Pinder
rounding off the scoring fourteen minutes from time.
Abergavenny Women have made a swift return to the top three following a 2-0
victory over Briton Ferry Llansawel. The prolific Lyndsey Davies was once again on
target for Aber, bagging a goal in each half to bring an end to a run of five matches without
a win. Abergavenny therefore move back above Cardiff City Women and Port Talbot on
goal difference.
The other match saw Aberystwyth Town notch up their fifth point of the
season when sharing a goalless draw with Cyncoed Ladies. The Mighty Oaks remain in
sixth place, one position above Aberystwyth.
This Sunday, Swansea City do
not have a game, therefore Cardiff Met P W D L F A Pts GD
