The top two are continuing to set a hot pace in the SBS Scottish Women’s Premier League
and it is Rangers who remain as leaders on goal difference at the end of the day following
their 5-0 victory over Spartans.
Although Spartans did give a good account of themselves in the match which was
televised live by BBC Alba, it was Rangers who took the lead through Kirsty Howat midway
through the first half and Zoe Ness made it two just before half time. Lizzie Arnot drove
home a third shortly after the hour and Rangers went on to crown the win with further
goals late on from Clare Gemmell and Howat.
The win actually returned Rangers to the top of the table after Glasgow City had
spent a few hours there, thanks to a 7-0 success away to Forfar Farmington. The home
side went into the match on the back of a good win seven days earlier, but it was City who
took the lead two minutes before the interval thanks to Sharon Wojcik. Ole Fulutudilu
bagged a quickfire double in the opening five minutes of the second half, with Nicole
Robertson and Julia Molin adding further goals ahead of the hour. Joanne Love increased
City’s advantage with eight minutes remaining, before Fulutudilu completed her hat-trick
in the dying minutes.
Celtic gained a much needed 3-0 victory against Hearts to get themselves back
on track in their quest to chase after the top two. The first half was goalless but the
deadlock was broken twelve minutes after the restart, Rachel Donaldson opening the
scoring for the Hoops. Sarah Ewens then sealed the points for Celtic as she netted twice to
leave her side still five points off the pace, whilst Hearts remain at the foot of the table on
goal difference.
Hibernian were another side to pick up a morale boosting win and they are back
up into the top half after edging out
Motherwell by the odd goal in five.
