A 4-0 victory over Brighton & Hove Albion has taken Manchester
Utd to the top of the Barclays WSL for the first time this season and
maintained their 100% record.
Ella Toone continued her superb form by scoring twice inside the
opening half hour and Leah Galton added a third ahead of the break.
Adriana Leon rounded off a good day for Marc Skinner’s side when she
grabbed the final goal.
United head the table on goal difference from Arsenal, who also
claimed a third win out of three with a 1-0 success away to Reading FC Women. Stina
Blackstenius scored the only goal of the game for the Gunners on the half hour mark, whilst
her team extended their WSL record run of clean sheets to nine matches.
Chelsea complete the top three as they also won for the third match in a row, 3-1 at
Everton. In their first match under the caretaker managership of Denise Reddy, Pernille
Harder gave them a first half lead and after a Kadeisha Buchanan own goal had levelled the
scores, Harder put Chelsea back in front from the penalty spot and Niamh Charles sealed the
points in injury time.
Aston Villa went into their match against West Ham Utd on Saturday with a chance
to go top of the league but quickly found themselves two goals behind as Dagny Brynjarsdottir
and Honoka Hayashi gave the Hammers a flying start. Kenza Dali did pull a goal back against
her former club but West Ham were able to hold on for a result which takes them level on
points with Villa.
Tottenham Hotspur moved up into the
top half on the back of a 1-0 victory over Aston Villa 1 (Dali 77)
Liverpool. An early own goal from Niamh Fahey West Ham Utd 2 (Brynjarsdottir 2, Hayashi 14)
was the difference between the teams on the day - Manchester Utd 4 (Toone 14,26, Galton 40, Leon 78)
and the Reds’ were unable to retrieve what would Brighton & Hove Albion 0
