FA Women’s Championship
The two ‘catch up’ matches to bring all teams level on the number of games
played have taken place over the past week, with significant results in the
battles for the runners-up spot and for survival.
On Thursday, London City Lionesses
took on Lewes knowing that a victory would take
them level on points with second placed Bristol
City. The Lionesses got off to a great start when a
cross by Karin Muya was put in her own net by the
unfortunate Rebecca McKenna. This was to be the
only goal of the game but it took a penalty save
from Shae Yanez, to deny Freda Ayisi, to secure
the 1-0 victory to keep her side’s hopes alive of a
top two finish.
Bristol City had the chance to
strengthen their position on Easter Sunday when
they played host to Coventry Utd, who were (above) Coventry Utd’s Natalie Johnson clears from

Katie Wilkinson keeping up her recent good form
with an equaliser seven minutes from time, to
take her side’s unbeaten run in the league to six
matches and narrow the gap between themselves
and Watford to five points.
A full programme of fixtures is set to take
place this coming Sunday, with newly crowned
Champions Liverpool playing their final home
game of the season against Sheffield Utd. Bristol
City meanwhile take on London City Lionesses in
a match which could well decide runners-up. A
win for the Vixens would virtually ensure second
place for them although Crystal Palace can still London City Lionesses 1 (McKenna og 6)
