Interpretation of DrB Survey
•While these are subjective observations by students, the downward trend in com- puter learning must be examined closely. For instance, we should determine if the lessened interest in learning IT can be attributed to more emphasis on other, more interesting topics, or whether computer tasks are not challenging enough for the child’s grade level.
How parents rate the quality of the Option and CTS program in their child’s school
•Overall, parents surveyed showed high satisfaction with the technology-integrated programs in DBE. This shows that students are seen to be able to apply their computer skills outside the school setting and that they are able to communicate technology within their grade level.
•87% of parents are satisfied with the quality of the option program and the CTS program in DBE.
How students rate learning how to use computers at school
•When asked if they are learning how to use computers at school, 79% of students answered yes, a considerable drop from last year’s survey result of 95% (see first chart). On grade level, 77% of Grade 6s and 81% of Grade 5s responded posi- tively, down from last year’s 96% and 94%, respectively.
How students rate their opportunity to use computers and their computer technology skills
•The second chart shows that more students this year are satisfied with the availability and quality of computers and other equipment for their school work. Moreover, there is no change from last year to this year in the number of students who are satisfied with their computer technology skills (85% as shown in the third chart)
