2.4 Educational Technology Support Centre
The review indicated:
A very large building housing two computer technicians, a training classroom facil- ity and storage areas. Eight to ten machines were connected in the classroom.
•A WAN connection via Paradyne Hotwire ADSL modems.
•The facility needs to be cleaned, otherwise very useful and practical. •This is an excellent facility. Every school jurisdiction should have a separate building in which training, maintenance, and all repairs can take place. If this location continues with the present use, it should be renovated to provide a better separation between work/repair and the training areas. As it is right now, you cannot repair computers, or work at a desk without interrupting a class in progress.
Recommendation:
1. The facility needs to be cleaned.
2. If this building continues to be used for training, it should be renovated to
provide a better separation between work/repair and the training areas.
2.5 Dr. Bernard Brosseau School
The review indicated:
•The Office has five Pentium 100 class computers, connected to a networked Lex- Mark Optra S 1255 laser printer.
•The Computer Lab is currently vacant (October 1999). It did contain a Mac Lab and the school is waiting for 29 new iMacs, and 1 G3 Minitower to serve as a Multi- media computer with software such as HyperStudio.
•Video editing may be considered.
•Wiring is not yet complete in the Lab (October 1999), none of the ends were termi- nated during the site visit.
•The Server Closet is hidden in a textbook storage room.
•The classrooms each have one teacher workstation.
•The Library has:
•six workstations, all connected to the Library automation system; and
•shared printing is done to a LexMark Optra R+ laser printer.
Recommendations:
!
1. The Server Closet should be locked, not doubled as a book storage room. Book storage rooms tend to be too dry, and have too much static
electricity.
2. Wiring needs to be appropriately terminated in the Lab 3. The Lab needs to be installed as soon as possible.
