Your Task
You need to research the causes, effects, impact and extent of the "digital divide". Find out what is being done
to narrow the gap and how effective these measures are proving. Think about the benefits and drawbacks of
narrowing the divide. Here are some ideas:
The causes of the divide Choose three from: technological, economic, social, geographical,
fear, lack of motivation
The effects of the divide economic, social, educational, cultural
The extent of the divide Is it widening or narrowing?
Measures to narrow the divide Are they working? What else could be done?
Benefits and drawbacks Consider the advantages and possible disadvantages of narrowing
the divide.
o Record every source of information in your bibliography
o Make sure you use a wide range of different sources and make sure that you research a good range of
local, national and global examples.
o Describe at least three causes of the digital divide.
o Consider the effects of the digital divide (locally, nationally and globally).
o Consider the extent of the divide (locally, nationally and globally).
o Consider measures being taken to narrow the divide (locally, nationally and globally).
