Page 148 - Trip to Ireland Final Flip Book
P. 148
Notes on this Flip Book:
Looking back this trip in 2021, from the vantage point of (the
years of the Covid-19 Pandemic) I value my travels even more
and that is why I decided to make my paper photo albums into
“flip books” and put it on my website.
Mary Ann and I were both into photography and had met at a
photography workshop in Wisconsin years before this trip. It
was back when I lived in Iowa instead of Alabama and she lived
in Chicago. We got together quite often – visiting each other in
Davenport or Chicago. Later, I moved to Alabama and she
moved to Colorado. We had very little contact after those
moves.
There have been so many changes since the trip. Back in 1991
when we toured Ireland, we didn’t have cell phones and our
cameras used film. I would have taken tons more photos now
with my digital camera. I had to make expensive phone calls
using my credit card since there was no email.
One story that escaped my narration was that Mary Ann had
left her tripod standing by the road near Galway on her first
trip to Ireland. Someone told her if a tourist found it they
would keep it but if an Irishman found it they would take it to
the police station. We went to the police station nearest to
where she left it and guess what? They had it and it had been 5
years. We were amazed.
Sadly I’ve lost touch with Mary Ann but I’m still taking photos
and I hope she is too.
