P. 99
M crawls into bed with a hot water bottle and I go out in the car
to get closer to the castle. No dice. Then I realize that I don’t
have my purse, my ID, or my driver’s license so I head back
because I figured if I can forget all that I am dangerously tired.
I sit in the lounge and catch up on my notes and chat with a
Dutch couple. First they read while I write and when Ann (yes,
another Ann) brings tea and cookies. We talk about the U.S.
and Holland. They leave for dinner and M wanders in and
turns on the TV. That is the first time I’ve watched TV on the
trip. Chisty McNickle’s show is on and when it is over I decide
to brave the windy wilds of Cong and search for some dinner.
I find the restaurant
Ann recommended with
a lovely rose garden
beside it but can’t’ resist
the Cong Abbey around
the corner. It is an
interesting looking old
ruin and I wander
around snapping hand
held polarized pix of the
crumbling stone walls,
windows and arches.
Then I go up what was
left of a staircase and
decided I want to take a
picture of myself sitting
in one of the windows.
