NEW YEAR HOPES
God Knows (Extract)
And I said to the man who stood at the gate of the year:
"Give me a light that I may tread safely into the
unknown".
And he replied:
"Go out into the darkness and put your hand into the
Hand of God.
That shall be to you better than light and safer than a
known way".
So I went forth, and finding the Hand of God, trod gladly
into the night.
And He led me towards the hills and the breaking of day
in the lone East.
Minne Louise Haskins, British academic, writer and poet
There is a principal which is pure, placed in the human mind, which in different
places and ages hath different names; it is, however, pure and proceeds from
God. It is deep and inward, confined to no forms of religion nor excluded from
any, where the heart stands in perfect sincerity. In whomsoever this takes root
and grows, of what nation soever, they become brethren.
