WAREHAM UNITED REFORMED CHURCH
The
Universal
Language
Dear Friends,
Whit Sunday is that extraordinary day when the Christian church
was born. On that day the disciples started the task for which
Jesus had prepared them. They were charged to take the gospel to
all people, baptising them in the name of the Father, the Son and
the Holy Spirit.
As we know, Jesus did not leave them to carry out this mammoth
task alone, but sent the Holy Spirit to them, appearing like fire to
strengthen and inspire them. That day Jesus' followers went out
and preached the good news to people from many nations, all of
whom could understand them in their own language.
When we holiday abroad, we may come across people speaking
several different languages, but there is one language which is
universally understood. This is the language of love, which Jesus
preached and showed in his own life. When we follow Jesus we try
to show that language of love in our everyday lives, which is not
always easy. However, like the disciples, we are not alone either.
The Holy Spirit can be with us too, when times are hard and we
turn to God. Moreover, as St Paul said, nothing can keep us from
the love of God in Jesus.
Every Blessing
