How do we do this? Through prayer and Bible study both in private
and in community. Your private prayer is personal and I cannot
speak on it; that is between you and God, but I would love more
people to take advantage of the opportunities for corporate prayer
mentioned elsewhere in the Link and to hear suggestions for
increasing our prayer life together.
In our constitution it states:- ‘
The enrichment and advancement of the church will only be
brought about through prayer and Bible study. Therefore, we
commit ourselves individually as believers and corporately as
a church to pray and study the scriptures seeking at all times
the guidance and teaching of God through the Holy Spirit’.
We may be uncertain what the future holds for us personally, as a
church, or as a joint pastorate, but our comfort and reassurance
comes from prayer. It is by turning to God and sharing our joys and
anxieties that we become intensely aware of how little we deserve
His loving Grace, but He gives it anyway! What a wonderful reason
to seek to follow him more closely and to share the good news of
his love and forgiveness available not only to us but to everyone
who loves God. How small our worries, hurts and disappointments
seem compared to God’s love!
Martyn and Graham both love illustrating their points In the words
of a hymn, so I’ll close with a favourite chorus:
Turn your eyes upon Jesus, look full in his wonderful face
Then the things of earth will grow strangely dim
In the light of his glory and grace.
