The 4.4L V-8 shared with the X7
M50i has been blessed with larger
turbochargers, a more efficient
cooling system, and free-flowing
exhaust to produce a 77-hp increase
and 590 lb-ft of total torque. The
gargantuan rocket can now hit 60
mph is a supercar-like 4.0 seconds.
The exterior of the XB7 has been
tweaked just enough to stand out.
The front bumper is stately, yet
aggressive, and the optional 23-inch
thin-spoke Alpina wheels are iconic.
The new, thicker steering wheel and
iDrive controller also display the
Alpina logo, and a numbered plaque
adorns the sophisticated open pore
wood dash trim. Taken all together,
the subtle upgrades are akin to
adding a hint of flavor to your favorite
sparkling water.
This isn’t to say the XB7 can’t be
made even more unique; owners can
designate 6- or 7-passenger seating
options, and the standard panoramic
roof can be swapped for an LED roof
resembling a starry night sky.
The combination of all-wheel-drive,
quick-shifting automatic, massive
torque, and the bellowing exhaust

modes, make the XB7 a delight around
town. The standard air springs can
lower the nimble teuton by 1.6 inches,
and contribute to the XB7 being one
of the best-handling SUVs in its class.
However, there’s no tradeoff for this
performance, as Alpina has always
prioritized comfort and stability.
The 2021 Alpina XB7 starts at $142,295 and is now available Alpina’s largest and most ambitious
