Working closely with the County’s
School Superintendent, the two
determined the musical education
needs of students throughout
Palm Beach. The Symphony has
since donated over 400 school
instruments to date, contributing to
the instruction of more than 56,000
students. The organization also
bestows the annual Instrumental
Music Teacher of the Year Award.

The stage had been set—but David
was only warming up.

It was time to engage the local
community in a new and unique
way. Rather than targeting a
traditional audience however,
David recruited 15 local executives
specifically in their 20s, 30s, and 40s

to establish the Young Friends of
Palm Beach Symphony. The crux of
the association were social events
literally outside of the Symphony’s
traditional comfort zone—happy
hours aboard private yachts,
brunches among the divots at the
International Polo Club, and the
annual Mozart and Mallots at the
National Croquet Center.

Principle to the intrigue? All event
promotion was strictly through
word-of-mouth invitation.
As with any acclaimed orchestra,
while the right instruments on their
own are essential, a masterpiece
cannot be completed without all
pieces working in harmony. For
David, the pièce de résistance had
to come in the form of world-class
entertainment. Thus began the
courting process necessary to hire
