COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT DURING COVID-19
Staying safe during the pandemic remained an overaching
theme nationally and globally. We took on the responsibility
of ensuring that our communities stayed safe and understood
the implications of the virus. Through our NGO-Accord for
Development, we engaged in sensistization and awareness
creation, the promotion of personal hygiene and provision of
personal protective materials.
The intervenion program took place in Ochia Community in
Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Area of Imo State with a
target audience of mostly women in Ochia and Assa
communities.
The following activities took place during the program:
Residents were taught the proper handwashing techniques which
was also demonstrated. According to the NCDC guidelines, proper
handwashing should last for a minimum of 20 seconds and must
include washing the back of the palms as well as the finger nails
properly as germs can easily hide in these areas. It is also advisable
to use an -bacterial soaps and liquids to wash hands.
Distribution of hand wash stations
Hand wash stations were distributed to the community. This
was to encourage them to take hand washing seriously. Anti-
bacterial liquids were also distributed alongside the stations.
