playing up in the Scottish Borders with a guy called John Reed. I'm hoping to do a couple of shows
with him. Also planning to do a couple of shows, I think it's Newton Aycliffe, with Gary Grainger.
Do you know, have you heard of Gary Grainger?
BiTS: [Laughs] Just a little bit. He's a DJ along with me on a number of radio stations.
GG: Yes. Ah, well, there you go. So Gary and I are going to do at least one, hopefully, two shows
together at that time as well. So yeah, again another formidably talented musician. He did a
fantastic cover of a song of mine called
‘Gambler’s Last Day’. We ran a little
competition.
BiTS: I didn’t realise that was your
song, I know that one, yes.
GG: Yeah, that's my song I wrote that
and we did a little competition to see
who would cover it.
BiTS: Tell me something Gozer, what
do you listen to at the moment? I mean
like when you're driving to work or
something or other. Do you have music on and if so, what is it?
GG: Oh, all the time. I'm a voracious consumer of music. I can't get enough. What am I listening to?
At the moment I'm listening to a band called The Record Company. Have you heard of them?
BiTS: Doesn’t ring a bell with me.
GG: Yeah, they're very much worth your time. They're a brilliant, again sort of blues rock outfit
and there's just something about their vibe that I really, really like. What else? T Bird and the
Breaks. That's another band that I've been listening to quite a bit. That's quite funky as well. I do
like a bit of funk.
BiTS: Yes, me too [chuckles].
GG: Yeah, absolutely. And I think those influences find their way into music as well. That's the
thing about when you have sort of blues as the bedrock of whatever it is you're doing, it's quite a
broad church, and I think you draw in all those influences, don't you?
BiTS: That’s right.
GG: Yeah. So I listen to a lot and listen to, you know, songwriters a lot. So somebody like Neil
Young, I absolutely love. I listen to a lot of Dylan. I listen to a lot of classic stuff and you know,
anything that piques my interest I will go after. I also will listen to people that I've been listening to
for years, like Beck, for example. So somebody like Beck, who constantly pulls in lots of different
influences and puts them out in different ways, I’m fascinated by that and that's very much the kind
of artist that I aspire to be, if you know what I mean?
BiTS: At the moment you're on your way home from work, or you were, anyway. What's your job?
What's your proper job?
