TW: Yes, it was and this is the second tour under my own name, but, I've, I've been
here a lot with my dad, (Ben Waters) and played with him regularly over here. But
it's great coming out by myself, you know and having someone like Geoff Achison
at the helm. He’s my favourite guitar player and generally just a nice guy as well.
It’s our second tour. And it's so much fun. It's so much fun.
FD: Well, that's the main thing. Now, before we get into this 2026 tour, and what
you guys are doing here in Australia, with Brush with the Blues, you mentioned your
father. I had the opportunity to meet Ben a few years back at the Port Fairy Folk
festival and was awestruck about
the names you and your father
hang out musically with in the
music industry.
TW: Well, me and my dad, you
know, we, we regularly play with,
with Ronnie Wood's band, and my
dad plays with the Rolling Stones a
fair few times , and we do lots of
sessions around London and the
fortunate thing for me, nepotism
and that, my Dad , will do a session
with say like Ray Davies from the
Kinks, this happened about a year
ago, but he did a session and while
Dad was leaving the recording
session, Ray was like, “Do you
know any good saxophone players”
and my dad was like, “matter of fact, my son he plays as well”, So I end up playing
on with a lot of, these artists my dad has regularly played with, for decades, you
know.
FD: Oh, wow. And, to play saxophone with anybody, including Ronnie Wood or Ray
Davies from The Kinks. What's your first reaction when you walk into the studios
and see such people?
TW: I don't know. I've, I've always just enjoyed playing music, and it doesn't matter
if, they're a celebrity or not.
The one time I got really nervous, though…So one of my biggest musical hero was
Jeff Beck and we did a bunch of recordings and gigs with him and that’s when I was
like, Oh my God, I had my fist in my mouth and like nervous shaking and asking him
everything about his career and he (Jeff) is saying, “all right Tom, Calm down”… But
that was great and a really fun few weeks we had you see.
