BiTS: Evelyn, please tell me a bit about Christmas Past and Christmas Present.
What’s it like for you and your family?
ER: Well, for my family what I remember when I was a child it was, of course, a very
special celebration day because all of us got together – my grandmother my aunts, my
cousins, of course, mum, dad.
My mother used to cook the turkey and the rest of the family, everybody brings a
special Mexican dish too. So it was about food, talking about funny stories and being
thankful to be there together one more year.
It's what it is, when people say, I didn't know that I was happy. That's what it was. It
was happiness just to be together enjoying the time that we were spending together,
the food and, of course, Jesus, celebrating Jesus, always.
BiTS: And now?
What is Christmas day now for me and my family? Now it’s a different story. I’m not
in Mexico and so when I can, of course, I like to go there and spend the time with
whoever is there because of course, after the years, there’s a lot of people that already
have gone.
In this moment, especially this Christmas, I think it’s going to be a little bit different
because I lost my husband last year and it’s just different, you know. It’s just going to
be probably here in the United States with my son and still trying to make the best for
Christmas.
This is something that I would like to tell the people, sometimes the circumstances
are not the best, but still we’re here and in my case I have my son, my beautiful kitties
and I have the opportunity to sing at church on Christmas day.
So, what a blessing!
We need to find the good side of everything, and this is what it’s going to be. My son
and me, nice dinner, sing in the church and ¡Feliz Navidad!.
