new material for next year and in between that looking to put some kind of tour together, maybe,
to help promote this and get this new music out there. One thing that this recording contract
gave me, because it's a three-year contract, it sort of gives you the impetus to do something in
those three years, having a plan working with the team there. The guys are really supportive and
obviously always looking for opportunities for me as well as a system with all the PR and stuff.
So yes, hopefully, next year 2024, we'll have a brand new album and a brand new tour to match
and look at getting to the next level.
BiTS: Ged, are you still working? Do you have what they call a proper job?
GW: No, no. I'm a pensioner, retired.
BiTS: What did you work at when you worked?
GW: I used to work for BT, yes for 40 years..
BiTS: You were a lineman for the county [laughing].
GW: Yes, I was [chuckles]. Yes, I did that. Well I started as an apprentice, but my first proper
role when I qualified was up and down poles, actually. Yes, arriving round in the yellow van, up
and down poles, and then it sort of progressed as time goes on and different jobs and by the time
I retired I was an account manager, managing multinational companies. So it just shows what
you can do by staying in one company. It was that broad. But yes, happy days, but long gone and
plenty of time now to concentrate on the music, which is a good thing.
BiTS: Where do you want to be in five years' time?
GW: Well, first of all, still alive [laughs]. Well, my target, you don't really have targets as such in
music. It's not like business, but I'd like to think that I could raise the status somewhat from
where I am now. So like last night, they had the British Blues Awards, it would be great if I could
get a nomination. That would be some kind of recognition that I’d obtained a certain level and
also, the sort of gigs to reflect that too. So playing the likes of the acoustic stage at Upton is a real
lift that helps get your name out there and you never know, one day you might be a one-hit
wonder.
BiTS: That's terrific. Ged, I won't take any more of your time. It's been absolutely wonderful to
talk to you, especially because I've read your work for, I guess, a year or so now, at least not sure
how long it is you've been writing for BiTS, but it's absolutely terrific. I love what you do, and I
wish you the very best of luck in the future and I hope that Upton proves to be as good as you
hope it will be and that it goes on to a great many things in the future.
GW: Yes. No, I appreciate it. Thanks very much.
BiTS: I won't take any more of your time.
GW: Okay then.
BiTS: Thanks for speaking to me. Bye.
GW: Alright. Bye-bye now.
