VT: Oh, thank you so much.
BiTS: Have you been able to get out and start gigging this album at all?
VT: Just a little bit. It’s going to start in earnest. I’m going to Memphis for the BMAs. I’m nominated again for
Soul Female Artist and so I’ll be there, and I will be doing some live things while I’m there - some television
and also a recording for British television.
BiTS: Oh, really. What’s that? Am I allowed to know?
VT: Blues Radio International. Yes, so I’ll be recording that while I’m in Memphis as well.
BiTS: That sounds absolutely fabulous. Vaneese, what are your intentions for the future? Are you lining up
another album, or are you going to stick with this one for a while?
VT: Oh, well, I'm going to
stick with this one for a
while because, like I said,
it’s very broad in scope and
I’d like as many people to
hear it as possible, so this
year and next year, I’ll be
touring with it, and
hopefully, I’ll get to
England [chuckles].
BiTS: Hopefully, you will.
That would be absolutely
terrific. Tell me something
about the arrangements of
this. Who did the music?
Was it your husband?
VT: The arrangements
were mostly my husband
and Al Orlo, my guitar
Carla Thomas performs during the Americana Music Association Awards player and myself. Since Al
and I wrote them, we
ceremony at the Ryman Auditorium Wednesday, Sept. 22, 2021 in Nashville,
would chart them and then
Tenn. (Andrew Nelles / Tennessean.com) give them to my husband,
and we would put them
down.
BiTS: I was reading on your bio. I came across this thing which says you once taught at a school in France and
lived in France for a while, I believe. What was that about?
VT: No, I didn’t teach in France. That’s not accurate. I went to school in France. Yes, I went to the Universite ́
Grenoble, and I also lived there for a while outside of Paris and was doing touring with Claude Bolling. So I
lived there several times.
BiTS: Do you get a chance to meet up with your sister every now and again?
VT: Oh, of course. When I go to Memphis, I’m going to see her. She’ll be at the BMAs with me. We’ll all be
sitting together. I was there for her birthday, which is in December, so yes, I get to Memphis quite frequently.
BiTS: Am I right in thinking that you’re the youngster of the family?
VT: Yes, I am.
BiTS: But you’ve got a big birthday coming up quite shortly?
VT: Yes, on August 24th, and yes, time flies when you’re having fun.
BiTS: Ain’t that the truth. I’m ten years older than you and I’m still having fun.
