THE BiTS INTERVIEW: Sari Schoor
In 2016, Sari first burst onto the Blues-Rock scene with her critically acclaimed debut
album, “A Force of Nature”, produced by iconic British Blues pioneer Mike Vernon
(David Bowie, Eric Clapton, John Mayall, Fleetwood Mac, Peter Green).
Sari’s success came after years trudging the rugged road of life of the hard-working
Blues woman. From her humble beginnings, working the music scene in the legendary
fierce South Bronx of New York and on Manhattan’s Lower East Side, to a performance
at Carnegie Hall, the operatically trained tornado, stood her ground as a phenomenal
Blues-Rock singer who would not be denied.
Recently it was announced that Sari would join British blues legend Robin Trower on
the new album “Joyful Sky”. Ian McKenzie spoke to Sari on the telephone at her home
in New York.
SS: Hello.
BiTS: Hello, is that Sari?
SS: It is. Ian?
BiTS: Yes, it's Ian McKenzie.
SS: Hello, Ian. So nice to hear your voice.
BiTS: And you. Thank you for agreeing to speak
to me. What I want to do is talk to you about your
career generally, but also specifically about working
with Robin Trower. Are we ready to do that?
SS: Whatever you'd like.
BiTS: Okay, let's make a start. Tell me, Sari, how
you got into singing in the first place. Did you start
very young?
SS: I did, and my mother loves to embarrass me
with the story that I was singing before I could even
walk [chuckles]. She had no idea what I was singing
about. I had my own language, but I was also using
anything I could get my hands on to make sound,
and generally, most often, that happened to be the
pots and pans from under the sink. I'm actually
quite astonished that she decided to have three
more kids after me [laughs].
