RK: It’s up there with Ronnies [Ronnie Scott’s Club] really. And it was a double headline gig with
Bex Marshall, just this last Sunday and what can I say? It was a very good turnout. Lots of people
that we know came along and supported us and bought their tickets. It’s quite overwhelming
trying to chat to everybody at the end of the gig. So it was just a great, great night in a wonderful
venue. Not the first time we’ve played there, but the first time for a little while, since obviously
before lockdown, so very enjoyable, thank you and we played a good mixture of our material
over the years from over the various albums.
BiTS: Good. Wonderful. Were you badly affected by COVID?
RK: Oh, absolutely, we were stopped in our tracks like all musicians. We just had to grind to a
halt.
BiTS: Did anybody get ill?
RK: Not in a bad way. We
all eventually caught it
once.
BiTS: Oh, really?
RK: Yes, but it wasn’t, in
our cases, very strong. It
was very mild.
BiTS: That’s good news.
I’ve not had it and neither
has my wife, but we just
had booster jabs this
morning, actually.
RK: Ah, okay. Yes. Most
people I know have had it
at some point, but we’re all
fine, thank you.
BiTS: Now, I notice on your
website that you refer to
yourself as a jazz guitarist.
Is that how you see yourself
these days?
RK: No, that’s somebody
else’s words. That’s just somebody else’s words. I don’t know how that came about. Certainly, I
don’t know, that’s quite an old website, so I have played a lot of jazz in the past, over the years,
which you may detect or may not detect, I’m not sure.
BiTS: Right. I’m interested in the opening section on your website where you talk about learning
to play the guitar at school and you say that you consider the amplifier to be a part of the musical
instrument.
RK: Absolutely, that is 100% true. An amplifier’s not just there to make it louder. That’s the norm.
That’s why guitarists are such fusspots, and they spend so much time consumed with their gear
and what suits their sound. That’s the norm, rather than anything unusual. You’ve got your
