SF: No. I don’t have any electronics in it, and I don’t use a lot of pedals or sets. I’m a real purist
that way. I just go for the real simplicity of it and a Fender Telecaster is a very simple guitar as far
as the way it’s made. You couldn’t be more simple. It’s the first electric guitar that was ever built
and it’s just very simply made. It’s got a real clean sound, so I always say it’s a good player’s guitar.
You really have to know how to play if you’re not leaning on pedals and effects and stuff like that.

BiTS: Have you ever tried to get on with a Strat?

SF: Yes, I’ve got a Strat. I’ve had them and I love
them. They’re great. It’s just a Telecaster was my Albert Collins
guitar. That’s the one I wanted to play, and I think
there’s a lot of dedicated Fender Telecaster players
who just like that guitar. I’m definitely in the Tele
    family.

BiTS: I’m huge, huge admirer of Albert Collins and
I just wish I’d got to see him live. Did you ever see
    Albert?

SF: I saw him many times and I agree, he was one
of my very favourite performers and he was one of

the reasons why I play Telecaster because he was
so amazing and he had such an amazing sound and
technique. I was in love with his playing.

BiTS: I often say to people that if you want to find
out what the meaning of the word ‘attack’ is in
music, just listen to Albert Collins.

SF: Yes, absolutely. He could beat anybody with

just that intensity. It came from somewhere else.

BiTS: Tell me something about the album named
after Pinky, your guitar, “Pinky’s Blues”. Do you
have a favourite track on it?

SF: I’m fond of the whole album and I did perform the entire album live. There’s a track that was

written by a friend of mine named Angela Strehli called ‘Say It’s Not So’ and it’s just a slow blues. I
really like that song a lot. I really like the vibe we captured in the studio. That’s probably up there
and I also really love ‘Southern Men’. That’s one of my favourite tracks.

BiTS: Is it moving well? Have you been able to market it?

SF: Oh yes. It’s doing great. It’s been on the radio charts since it came out and it’s gotten tonnes of
great reviews. It’s been very well received.

    BiTS: Good.

    SF: Yes, we’re very excited.

BiTS: Have you been badly affected by COVID? I guess from what you said earlier on that you have
    been.
