The Milk Men—Live at Milkfest—Independent

The Milk Men have a reputation for high energy
gigs and albums, short, catchy songs of the type that

often gets called “British R’n’B”, and they’re good
guys too – Milkfest was set up to raise money for
the Brain Tumour Charity, and that includes this

album, their opening set recorded at Indigo at The
02 in London back in February.

It was recorded on two track mono and unlike

many live sets, this is just as it came over the
speakers, no overdubs or attempts to correct mistakes. Not that there are any
blindingly obvious ones. Adam Norsworthy’s guitar playing is raunchy throughout,

lead singer Jamie Smy sounds to have a cheeky twinkle in his eye, and the rhythm
section of Lloyd Green on bass and Mike Roberts on drums propel things along rather
nicely. Nice to note too that these guys are also recognised for their sartorial elegance!

Proceedings do slow down for ‘Give Me A Reason’, an excellent slow blues originally
on their “Gold Top” album that proves the band can tackle this kind of material
extremely well – as if anyone needed proof. Paul Long, formerly of Catfish, adds

some excellent Hammond organ to this as well. All the material is original and drawn
from the band’s past repertoire, with the exception of a surprisingly effective cover
of The Who’s rock classic ‘Pinball Wizard’.

So do check it out – you’ll be helping a good cause and having a good time too.

Now, a decade later, his new album brings a greater depth and maturity to his
particular fusion of hard rock and blues. David is on lead guitar and vocals, with
