Did you now, that's a long time. You must have had some stories about him. He died very suddenly, I
think. Was it a surprise to you? Did you know he was ill?

    AJBJ:

Yeah. I didn't know he was ill and in fact, he showed no signs of it except one time we were on the
road he was complaining about soreness in his leg and some people tell me it was a blood clot, but I
had for personal reasons, gotten away from the band at that time. I think I left six months before he
    passed.

    BiTS:

Oh, okay, so you weren't actually involved when he did pass on?

    AJBJ:
                                            No, I wasn't.

                                               BiTS:

Okay, let's move on a bit. Who did you work with after
Eddie Mac Scoundrels at the Blues Club
                                                 Freddie King?

                                                 AJBJ:

After Freddie, I was with a group called the Creators. We
signed a contract and did a record. I wrote Blame It On Me
and it was on RCA records and I come to find out that RCA
records sold it to Sony and Sony leased it to an overseas label, so
they're re-pressing that. After the Creators, I played with Johnnie

Taylor for about four or five years and then I joined Silent Partners, which was
Tony Coleman and Russell Jackson and we toured with Katie Webster and recorded with Katie
Webster. We did The Swamp Boogie Queen album with her.

    BiTS:
If my memory serves me right, they were something to do with Bobby Bland, were they not?

    AJBJ:

Oh yeah, Tony was with Bobby Bland, Russell was with BB King.

    BiTS:

Tell me about working with Katie Webster. I've always liked Katie Webster, but I gather she's a
very, what shall we say, fiery person. Would that be right?

    AJBJ:

You hit it right. That's right on the nail [chuckling]. In fact, her manager Ice Cube, used to come in
and probably say something to make her angry, because he thought that she played better when she
was angry. He would come in on purpose and upset her before she went on stage. But Katie was just
a remarkable lady. On that Swamp Boogie Queen album, since I had just left Johnnie Taylor, she
decided she wanted to do Who's Making Love because I'd just played with Johnnie so we put that on
the Swamp Boogie Queen album and Katie's soundcheck was another show because doing
soundchecks she would just take off and just actually get into her own world of playing and start

    singing.
