Singer - songwriter John Hiatt is more than likely best known to music fans
through his songwriting. His songs have been covered by Willie Nelson,
Emmylou Harris, Bob Dylan, Buddy Guy, Dave Edmunds, Delbert McClinton
and many others.
It’s just a shame that his own recordings
appear to be ignored by the majority of
the record buying public.
Is he bothered? Not in the slightest…
“I always judge records on their mer-
it not on sales figures, if I did that, I
probably would have quit a long time
ago” (from an interview with Alan
Cackett)
My first hearing of Mr. Hiatt was in a small
record shop in Emsworth where they were
playing his “Have A Little Faith In Me”. I
loved it, and was informed who I was lis-
tening to. Next time I heard the song was
by Delbert McClinton.
Buddy Guy’s version of “Feels Like Rain”
is superb and a faithful representation of
the Hiatt original.
He sure knows how to write a good song, let’s face it, artists like those
listed above are always on the lookout for possible hits.
I can recommend two double cds…
“Anthology” (2001)
“The Definitive Collection 1987-1994” (2013)
