BiTS: [Laughs] I had the pleasure of seeing Junior Wells and Buddy Guy together
again when I lived in New York City. They did an acoustic show that included a lot
of electric guitar players. I can't think of the names now. It doesn't matter anyway.
I thought they were wonderful. I loved the sound that they made. I've got an acoustic
album of Junior Wells and Buddy Guy together that I quite often play on my acoustic
show.
JI: Isn't it called “Alone And Acoustic”?
BiTS: Yes, that's right it is.
JI: I don't know if you enjoy English punk rock at all, but I grew up listening to that
too, and I wanted to call my new Delmark album “Alone And Acoustic And Totally
Wired”, ‘Totally Wired’
being a song by the Fall –
Totally Wired because
that's what it sounds like
to me. So that must have
been the 80s you're
talking about, huh?
BiTS: That's right. I lived
in New York in the 80s for
about six months while I
Junior Wells & Johnny Iguana was working somewhere,
and I had the great
pleasure of seeing them
and plenty of others. I saw
Les Paul play in Iridium.
Absolutely terrific.
JI: Oh, yeah. My band, the Claudettes played in the Iridium. Just about four or five
months ago. We loved it.
BiTS: I had a great time when I was there. Listen, Johnny, let's move back a little bit.
Can we talk about the new record which I think is absolutely fabulous. I'm going to
be playing some tracks.
JI: Oh, I’m glad.
BiTS: How was it made? I mean, did you make it all in one go or did you go to the
studio a number of times, or what?
JI: Well, I'm glad you enjoy it because it's funny I was listening to a test pressing
yesterday on vinyl and my wife said it just sounds like you're just over there playing
the piano. This is just like what it sounds like when you're playing at home, which
is nice because it was about that informal.
