BJ: Yes.

BiTS: I love that sound. Generally speaking, I hate accordion sounds, but when it’s Cajun
music and button accordions, I can live with it. Wonderful stuff.

BJ: Clifton Chenier is my accordion idol.

BiTS: Kathy, tell me about the song ‘Breakup Breakdown’ because when I first saw it on the
album cover on the downloads that I got, I thought it’s got to be something like Earl Scruggs,
and it turns out to be nothing like that at all [chuckling].

    KM: [Chuckles]. That song was
    originally two songs and I
    tinkered with both of those
songs for about 20 years and
    never recorded it or performed
it. Now in this last album, I
    realised that those two songs
that I’ve been working on, not
    really feeling satisfied that they
    were finished, they needed to
be merged into one song and
that’s why that song has three
    different parts. The regular
verse on the one, the verse that
starts on the five, and then the
bridge going to the four and the
inspiration for that song was all
the cool music that I heard

    from Doug Sahm. Are you
    familiar with Doug?

    BiTS: Yes.

KM: And that West Side San Antonio sound and 'Kaz' Kazanoff and The Texas Horns, Al Gomez
and John Mills really, really captured that sound on that cut. Matt Farrell played a beautiful
    piano on that too.

BiTS: Do you have a favourite track on the album?

KM: Wow, I have not been asked that. Gosh, if I had to take one track, I don’t know, that might
be it ‘Breakup Breakdown’. I really like that there’s a lot going on with that song. Three-piece
horns, piano, Bill’s guitar, but everything has enough space. It doesn’t sound crowded at all. I
do love the way that recording turned out.

BiTS: Often, when I’ve asked that question, they’ve declined, saying they’re all my babies and I
    love them all.

KM: [Laughing] Well that’s true. That’s true. Now I’m feeling guilty about the other songs.

BiTS: Do you have a family?

KM: I have a lot of nieces and nephews that I like to spoil the heck out of and Bill and I have
mentored a lot of children. We don’t have children of our own, but we’ve mentored children.
