EW: As a result of the American deal, I’ve also got distribution with a brilliant company in
England called Proper Music Distribution, who take care of a lot of great artists. I’m so excited.
I can’t get my words out [laughs].

BiTS: Has this happened all of a sudden? You’ve been working on this for a long time, really,
    haven't you?

EW: Well this album’s been in my head and in my soul and in my heart for about three years,
and with lockdown, I was unable to get into the studio with a full band but however I made it
happen by going down to Kent to a studio called Jackdaw and working with three incredible
musicians down there - Mat Hector who plays the drums, Mark Neary on bass and Adam
Chetwood on guitar. We rehearsed in the round. We sat together. We had a day putting the
songs together, working out riffs, working out the shape of the songs and they were very, very
involved in the production of the whole album. And then we had a session in March last year
and then we went back in December and finished it off and it was just a lovely experience. Very
sort of, what I would call a traditional way of recording. We did it all together. A lot of the

vocals were live. In fact, they were all one take and that’s not me saying, hey, hey, I’m great. It
was just a case of me wanting to sing the songs and put the songs across as one story. And
there are cracks in there. You know, at

                                                                     BiTS: Really?

EW: Yes, you’ll hear it and it was just
the emotion and I spoke to Mark Neary,
who was putting the mixes together and
I said can we find a better ending? And
he said no. No, we can’t find a better
ending because I think you should leave
it [laughing] and it’s one crack.

BiTS: That’s a terrific thing to hear as
well. All of this comes at the same time
as being nominated as emerging artist of the year for the UK Blues Awards.

EW: I know. That’s really exciting. The results and the ceremony is on the 15th of May, and
we’re all going down to the PowerHaus at Camden. Are you going to get yourself down?

BiTS: No, I’m not able to, I’m afraid.

EW: Oh well, you’ll be there in spirit because it is a result of a lot of the independent DJs
playing my record that I am nominated.

BiTS: I’m delighted to hear that as well.
EW: It’s because of you guys, yes.

BiTS: Tell me more about the album. “Wish Her Well” is the name of it. Why is it called that?

EW: ‘Wish Her Well’ you will have heard as an acoustic track which was on my first EP and I’d
been around doing cover versions in bands for a long time and several people said to me,
Emma, why aren’t you writing your own stuff? Why haven't you got your own record out, blah,
blah, blah? I wanted to write a song, and I just thought to myself, dig deep and find out the
most bluesy thing that’s ever happened to you in your life [laughing] and it was a case of being
