Chapter 4 ESTIMATING 169
Chapter
ESTIMATING 4
Introduction
The method and format for producing design-build estimates are strictly a matter of
personal preference, including one's background and experience. The availability of job-cost
information and historical data cannot be overlooked when producing budget or final estimates.
The design-build proposals will involve estimating from very preliminary design
information and therefore require a reasonable amount of experience and is certainly not for the
uninitiated. The key to producing accurate design-build estimates begin with isolating the hard
to price items and work categories, which could mostly affect the final proposal amount.
Spending the time required to accurately price the selected items that will most effect your final
bid price would provide accurate results.
Completing the checklist process prior to finalizing and submitting a proposal is certainly
recommended, regardless of the basis or intended use of the estimate information.
