        The single greatest indicator of student learning and achievement lies with the effectiveness of the teacher. ESC 3
        has developed two pathways for the new teacher mentoring academy to provide individualized targeted mentoring
        support. All New Teacher Academy participants will receive a copy of The First Days of School: How to be an Effective
        Teacher by Harry Wong.

         Option 1

         Traditional First-Year

         Teacher Academy

            ƒ  1-Jump-start coaching session prior to first day
             of school—Setting Up for Success (customized
             classroom management poster)

            ƒ  4-Individualized mentoring sessions (conference
             period) focused on the needs of the teacher with
             classroom observation and feedback during the fall
             semester *
            ƒ  2 free professional development sessions at Region   Cost

        Option 2

        Alternative Certification
        Teacher Academy                                          ƒ  4 focused professional learning opportunities including
                                                                 the following:
           ƒ  2 full-day sessions, focusing on effective instructional     ‚  Student support
            practices                                               ‚  Formative assessment and data

            Topics include the following:                           ‚  Student engagement
              ‚  Prepare teachers for a confident, successful start to     ‚  Technology in the classroom
               the school year                                   ƒ  Support for TEXES certification and alternative
              ‚  Facilitate designing a well-organized and managed   program
               classroom, conducive to learning
              ‚  Prepare for effective instruction (T-TESS, lesson plan-
               ning, differentiation)
              ‚  Learn to engage in effective communication with
               parents                                        Cost
           ƒ  6 individual coaching visits, including classroom   $3,500 per teacher
            observations, effective instructional practices,
