Secondly, I used to have hell lot of things to do during a typical workday. Key point over here is how to prioritize
the work based on the importance and deliverable timeline.
And yes, no matter how much work you have, it was almost compulsory to attend all the parties at night since
your visibility matters a lot. So I had to manage my time judiciously. Sometimes, I had to work after returning
from parties as well.
❖ What did you do right and what did you do wrong?
Things which I think worked for me are:
● I made a lot of connections. Some were really meaningful which helped me a lot throughout
● I made sure that all my objectives were clear before I start with anything
● I was able project that I am very much interested in what I am doing
● My team mates always believed that I really want to come back and work with Deloitte
Things which I did wrong:
● During the mid review, I did not practice my presentation. My preparation was not sufficient
● I didn't know Macro VBA. So I had to invest my weekends to learn and apply it
● I kept my self very much busy and didn't get time sufficient to explore Gurgaon
❖ What are the things to keep in mind in the internship?
Based on my experience, following are the points which an intern should keep practice:
● Always understand the bigger picture of any project. Why are you doing the project? How will it benefit the
client?
● Network with people at right time and right place. Consulting is all about networking.
● You cannot survive without Excel and PPT
● Stay in your limits in each and every party. People will be observing you
● Always maintain your dressing etiquettes. How you present yourself, matter a lot
❖ What pre-internship preparation do you suggest for juniors?
● Master Excel and PPT skills
● Try to learn Macro and VBA
● Tableau can also be useful. You can do a basic course. So that it's not alien to you if at all you have to work
on it during your internship
● Hone your presentation skills
❖ Anything else you would like to add
Consulting is really interesting if you are a people person. It really gives you a very high exposure in terms of
learning. But it's up to you how to extract the best of knowledge.
