Improving Healthcare Through a Mentoring System:

Experiences from the Sestre milosrdnice University
               Hospital Center

Increasing demands for healthcare services are also leading to a rise in the expectations placed
on nurses, who make up nearly half of the healthcare workforce. The rapid flow of information
and the need for high-quality healthcare require nurses to quickly master both general and
specific skills, which can be particularly challenging for newly hired nurses. They often have
lower professional confidence and find it more difficult to cope with the stress that comes with
               the job.
For this reason, a mentoring system for newly hired nurses has been introduced in the Sestre
milosrdnice University Hospital Center among nurses with the aim of supporting and bridging
theoretical and practical knowledge, as well as developing so-called „soft“ skills such as
improving professional communication with patients and colleagues, strengthening the sense
of belonging to the team, and boosting self-confidence. During the mentoring process, mentors
share their experiences and help resolve challenges that young newly hired nurses frequently
encounter, providing them with essential feedback and motivating them to continue learning
and developing their potential. The ultimate goal is to improve the quality of healthcare.
Although mentoring systems are not new, the presentation will describe the tailored approach
to the initial implementation of mentoring for nurses and midwives at the Sestre milosrdnice
               University Hospital Center.
